Custom categories you've created can be deleted at any time. Deleting a category is permanent and cannot be undone.
Step-by-step guide to delete a category
Here’s how to delete a category from your app:
- Open the "More" tab and find the categories section. Open it (you will see the categories list), then find the needed category.
- Click on the category to open its details page.
- Tap the three dots button located at the top-right corner of the screen.
- Choose "Delete Category" from the options.
- Finally, confirm that you want to delete the category.
Before you delete: important considerations
- Linked transactions will become uncategorised: if you delete a category that has transactions linked to it, those transactions will lose their category and become uncategorized. This also applies to both recurring and scheduled transactions, so you’ll need to reassign them to another category if necessary.
- Impact on Analytics: transactions that were previously categorized will no longer be displayed correctly in Analytics. This can distort your reports and financial insights if those transactions remain uncategorized.
- Effect on budgets: when a category is deleted, it disappears from the budget settings, and any transactions that were linked to the budget through this category will also be excluded, as they become uncategorized. This can affect your overall budget tracking and may require you to adjust the budget accordingly.
- Deleting categories with subcategories: you cannot delete a category if it has subcategories. Before deleting a parent category, you must complete one of the following two options:
- Move the subcategories to another parent category.
- Delete the subcategories and then proceed with deleting the parent category.
