Grassfeld is a personal finance app designed to help users organise their money, track spending and manage budgets in one place. It combines bank connections, automatic transaction categorisation, savings goals and financial analytics. YNAB takes a different approach, focusing on zero-based budgeting, where every part of your income is assigned a specific purpose.
Bank сompatibility
Grassfeld supports connections to major banks across the EU, as well as in the United States and Canada. This makes it possible to manage supported accounts from different countries within one profile.
The number of connections depends on your subscription:
- Light Plan: one connected bank account.
- Premium+ Plan: unlimited bank connections.
Once connected, eligible accounts synchronise transactions, which Grassfeld automatically categorises to help you keep track of your spending. If an account cannot be connected, you can still manage it manually or import transaction data.
Some limitations apply: EU savings accounts cannot currently be connected, and credit card synchronisation depends on the bank and account type. The UK is not currently supported.
YNAB also offers bank connections, but availability depends on the country and financial institution. If you use European banks, it is worth checking whether your specific institutions are supported before choosing a service.
Budgeting approach and financial tools
Grassfeld combines budgeting with broader personal finance management tools. You can create budgets, set category limits, monitor spending and review how your financial habits change over time.
Its key features include:
- Budgets and spending categories: organise expenses and set limits to manage your monthly spending.
- Automatic transaction categorisation: save time by having eligible transactions categorised automatically, with the option to use custom categories and subcategories.
- Spending analytics: review expenses by account, category and spending type, including fixed and variable costs.
- Recurring transactions: keep track of regular income and expenses.
- Savings goals: set targets and monitor your progress.
- Debts and loans: organise outstanding balances and track what you owe or are owed.
- Grassfeld Intelligence: ask questions about your financial data and get AI-powered insights.
- PDF financial reports: generate and review reports to understand your finances in more detail.
Premium+ also includes advanced analytics, future financial predictions, unlimited PDF financial reports and sharing features such as shared budgets and savings goals.
YNAB follows the zero-based budgeting method. Instead of simply tracking spending against category limits, users assign every unit of available income a job. This approach can work for people who want to plan how every part of their money will be used.
The main difference is that Grassfeld combines budgeting with automatic transaction tracking and a wider set of financial management tools, while YNAB centres its experience on its budgeting method.

Grassfeld offers two subscription plans, depending on how many bank connections and financial tools you need.

Regional needs: countries, languages and currencies
Grassfeld supports 15 languages: Danish, German, Estonian, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Swedish and Ukrainian. Grassfeld Intelligence and the customer support team are also available in these languages.
You can use accounts in different currencies within the same profile. During registration, you select a base currency, which you can change later in your profile settings. However, accounts in different currencies cannot be combined into a single budget or savings goal. You can create separate budgets and goals for each currency instead.
Grassfeld's support for major banks across the EU, the US and Canada also makes it relevant for people who manage finances across these regions.
